Senior Airman Cynthia Castro was born in Brownsville, Texas and is the daughter of Carlos A. Castro and Cruz B. Castro. She joined the Air Force in September of 1996 and attended Lackland Air Force Base for basic training. She then attended Kessler Air Force base to become an Operations Resource Manager.
During her career, Senior Airman Castro participated in Operation Allied Forces and Operations PHOENIX SCORPION I and II. It was during Operations PHOENIX SCORPION I and II that Airman Castro was a key decision-maker in determining legal-for-alert times for forty nine of Dover’s Bravo and Charlie stage crews. The promptness and accuracy of her alert set-ups determined the flow of mission assignments issued by Headquarters Air Mobility Command and Tanker Airlift Control Center. Despite a seventy five percent workload increase over normal operations, three hundred and forty three alerted crews were processed in minimum time and tracked in global mobility system with 100 percent accuracy earning her the Air Force Outstanding Achievement Medal.
Senior Airman Castro was stationed at Dover AFB, Delaware and was deployed to Hickham, AFB, Hawaii and Yokota AFB, Japan. She was assigned to the 436th Airlift Wing and was part of the 9 th Airlift Squadron. During her station at Dover AFB, she received Airman of the Squadron, Operations Manager of the Quarter, and Airman of the Year.
Ms. Castro’s educational background includes a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Wesley College, a Masters in Education and Administration degree from the University of Phoenix as well as a Superintendent Certification from the University of Texas at Tyler. She is currently the Administrator for Professional Development in Brownsville, Texas, and is the proud mother of two children.
